A screen-free Christmas afternoon

Put on a pot of tea, clear a corner of the table and let the sea creatures take over. These are simple, hands-on ideas for a little ocean-themed festive fun. An adult should stay close for any kit with small parts, cord or water.

1. Make a tiny snowy sea

Colour the sea-life inserts, place them inside the globes and give them a shake for a little underwater winter scene. The kit includes a snow globe and two pre-printed card inserts; pens or pencils are not included, and you add water. A nice one to do together before choosing a favourite spot on the shelf.

2. Hang mermaids on the tree

Thread colourful beads and a wooden mermaid charm onto the cord, then hang the finished decoration. The kit includes four assorted designs and is marked age 5+. This is a grown-up-nearby activity: Baker Ross warns of small parts, small balls and long cord, with choking and strangulation hazards for children under 36 months.

3. Let a fish swim by the window

Keep it easy

There is no need to do all four. Put out one activity, let the child lead and keep spare paper or a tray underneath. Check the current product page for full safety information before buying; use age guidance and supervise closely, especially around small parts and cord.
